I took this photo when I went outside last Monday to take photos of the snowfall from the first day of spring using my Nikon D3200. I used all natural lighting, with no additional lighting or flash needed to capture this photo. Of the 30+ photos I took I liked this one in particular for many reasons. The first thing that I especially liked about this photo was the lighting in the photo, the lighting wasn't too harsh or washed out with overexposured areas in the photo, which prevents the photo to remain interesting to the viewer. I like how the light is casting down from above onto the snow-covered branches of the tree limbs, creating a shiny crystal-like effect onto the snow particles as well as on the wet needles of the tree, which make a metallic effect to the needles. I also like how the center piece of snow on the branch is in complete focus allowing the fullest detail of the snow in the photo, allowing a great amount of texture to the photo. I also like how the background is out of focus, which allows the photo to be focused on the center area of the photo that is in complete focus. I like how you can also a lot of detail in the needles of the tree to allow more depth to the photo itself, as opposed to a photo that wasn't in focus at all. I also like the options of colors in this photo of whites, greens, yellows, grays, yellows, reds, blues, and oranges in the photo. By having a better selection of colors in this photo it makes the photo much more interesting to the viewer of the photo as opposed to a photo with only one or two colors in the photo, having the wider selection of colors it makes the photo more vibrant. Another thing that I like about this photo when I captured it was that some of the needles shown in this photo are brown, while others were green, I think that having this shown in this photo shows the effect of time and age of the section of the plant shown in this photo. Having this in the photo is an expression of plant cycles in its cycle process in nature. I also like how that some of the snow had already begun melting, which allows part of the branches with needles of the tree to peek out and add more detail and content to the photo. I think that if I captured a photo of just snow it wouldn't have been as interesting of a photo as this one is. Another thing that I also like about the photo is the branches above that are out of focus that are bending downwards, having them shown in the photo allows the branches to point and aim towards the center of the photo that is in focus of the camera, in which the branches above draw your attention towards the center. I think that if the upper branches weren't bending down that it wouldn't have been able to create this effect in the photo. I also like how the white of the snow compliments the white clouds in the sky as shown in the upper right corner of the photo. I think that without all of these things in this photo that it wouldn't be as interesting of a photo as it already it is.
I like the contrast between the green pine needles and the white snow. I also like the contrast between the sunlight and the shadows and how they are scattered out everywhere. Another thing that I like about the picture is how relatively parallel the branches are.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your positive feedback on my photo. I agree that the contrast between the green pine needles and the snow is interesting to the photo. I also agree that the contrast between the sunlight and shadows that are scattered are just right. When I took this photo I didn't pick up on the fact that branches were parallel to each other. I think with that being mentioned also adds another to my photo. The next time I take a photo I will look for things that are parallel to each other. I think that this photo was one of my more interesting snowy photos that I have taken. Thank you again for your feedback.
DeleteI like this photo a lot. I think it is very cool because the background is blurred but you would not be able to tell unless you actually looked at it since it is white. I think you mentioned it too but the leaves, snow and branches are in focus and I think that allows us to see the contrast between the dark green and brown against the white snow. My favorite thing about this photo is that only the closet snow/branch things are in focus and right under it but in the back there is snow and leaves that are not in focus but you can still see the colors of it. Great job Teddy!
