Shapes & Patterns_Julianna

I took this photo for my shapes and patterns assignment. I took this photo of these holes I found in a pole for a street sign. I like this photo because of the depth of field. It is blurred in the front, crisp and in focus in the middle, and out of focus in the back. I like that because I think it adds more to the details in the photo because the depth of field allows the viewer to see the details in the metal inside the pole and some outside of it as well. The thing I wish I could change about the photo is how dark it is on the top left of the photo. I do not know why it is so dark, it could have been from the shadows of the trees that were surrounding the street sign.

  1. I really like this photo a lot. I think this photo is very interesting to look at and observe. This photo is much more different than a photo than one would normally expect to see and that is sometimes the best thing to see for photos. I like this photo for a number of reasons. The first thing that I like about this photo is the lighting in the photo, the lighting isn't too harsh or too overexposed, which is good and prevents it from detracting the main focus of the subject. I also like how when you captured this photo that the depth of field for focus was very shallow and narrow, this helps give the subject better attention to the viewer in the narrow area of focus as to opposed to having more of the photo in focus. I like how the light is reflecting on the two circles from the post, I like the little patterns it is giving off into the camera, I like how both of them are completely different from each other, the one on the bottom being greenish color with reds and whites, and the top on being brownish with grays and whites. I also like how when you captured this photo you captured interesting shades of light around the different parts of the post which casts shades of pink, white, and blue, this allows a bit more touch to the photo. I also like how there isn't anything too distracting in the background, this helps ensure the complete focus towards your main subject in this photo. The only thing that I would have changed about this photo would have been to have gotten the entire circle of the post in the photo and have gotten the entire the left part of it in the photo to get the full shape in the photo. Other than that it is a great photo, great job and keep up the great work.

  2. I really like this photo for many reasons. First thing I like about this photo is that the two holes you are looking at through is in focus. I also like how the depth of field is shallow because it draws your eyes directly into the photo rather than driving your eyes out of focus towards the background of the photo. I also like the variety of color in this photo because it makes your photo look appealing to look at. I also like how in the top hole has more browns and tan while the bottom hole has greens, yellow, brown and red in this photo because it makes a nice contrast between the two points of view. I also like how the two holes look kind of like a port hole of a ship or from a view of a cannon. I like how this photo makes it look like the view through someone's two eyes because it makes a cool first person point of view in this photo. I also like the rust on the sign because it makes the photo have more variety to it. I also like scratches and streak marks on the metal sign because it adds flavor to this photo, giving the viewer attention to look around at the details of the sign. The only thing I would have changed in this photo would have been to very slightly reduce the exposure on the bottom hole of the sign because it is slightly overexposed. I think if you reduced the exposure just slightly the colors in the background through the bottom hole of the sign might be slightly darker in tone. Other than that I think this is a really cool photo. Nice job.

    1. Thank you for the feed back. I do agree that the colors in the photo are a nice contrast to each other. I did not realize that the photo resembled a port hole or something like that. I also did not realize that there was some over exposer at the bottom of the photo. Thanks for catching that.
